The Dream Team

Meet Our Wonderful Instructors & Healing Arts Service Providers!

Experienced.   Well-Trained.   Professional.   Dedicated.   Caring.   Holistic.

The teachers and healing arts professionals at Dream Yoga are the best! They have training in a variety of yoga, meditation, massage, acupuncture,  and other holistic disciplines that are proven to enhance health, well-being and personal transformation. All have made their yoga or meditation practice, and/or the healing arts service they provide, central to their lives. For us, teaching yoga and meditation, and providing a healing arts service…is simply sharing what we love and what we know works.

Most of Dream’s yoga teachers are trained in or influenced by Kripalu Yoga—a yoga practice that teaches the basic mechanics of yoga postures and breath…while encouraging inner focus, feeling, and mind-body awareness.) Kripalu Yoga is often referred to as "the yoga of life.") Many also have additional training and experience in using "yoga as medicine" or "therapeutic yoga."

It is our pleasure and blessing to serve you.

Professional Affiliations: Member of the International Assocation of Yoga Therapists, Kripalu Yoga Teachers Association, and the Mid-Atlantic Yoga Association

Provides:  Yoga and Meditation Instruction,  Therapeutic Yoga  and Dream Interpretation

Luann has been practicing yoga since 1979 and teaching since 1999. Her teaching reflects her years of studying a variety of yoga styles with some of the nation’s foremost yoga instructors. These include founder of Integrative Yoga Therapy Joseph Le Page;  Kripalu/Pranakriya Master Teacher Yoganand Michael Carroll; Jonathan Foust, founder of the Mindfulness Training Institute of Washington;  Judith Lasater;  Anusara Yoga Founder John Friend;  Betsey Downing, founder of The Health Advantage Yoga Center; Doug Keller; Advaita and Kashmiri yoga master Richard Miller; Chakra system author Anodea Judith; Viniyogi's Lex Gillan and Stan Hafner; Hillary Blackton; and the Swamis at Satchidananda Ashram/Integral Yoga Center.

In addition to being a Professionally certified Kripalu Yoga Instructor, Luann also completed a 200-Hour certification in the Iyengar style of hatha yoga; and spent two years in The Haden Institute’s Dream Interpretation Group Leader Certification program. She is acknowledged as a Experienced Yoga Teacher-500 by the national Yoga Alliance. She has also completed her 500-Level Certification as a Professional Yoga Therapist in Joseph LePage's Integrative Yoga Therapy program.

Luann is amazed at what yoga can do for the body, mind and spirit. She began yoga, like many do, to better manage stress. Yoga has also helped her overcome physical challenges—including arthritis, pleurisy, a painfully swayed back, and a torn meniscus. Even more, yoga has strengthened Luann's love and sense of awe. Her goal as a yoga teacher and therapist is to inspire her students to embrace yoga as a tool to help them become healthier. To make their bodies more limber and strong, their hearts more open and joyful, their minds more clear and calm.

Luann loves sharing the gift of yoga and its profound healing effects with both beginners and advanced students of all ages, shapes and sizes in both group classes and private sessions. She wants to break down the perceived barriers people have to doing yoga...so everyone--despite limitations--can practice and receive its many benefits. She has used the tools of yoga and meditation to help people manage and heal pain (in their back, shoulders, hips, knees, feet, etc.).  She’s helped students with poor posture, sciatica, scoliosis, fatigue,  asthma, insomnia, infertility, menopausal and mensus issues, pregnancy, post-natal recovery, organ prolapse, anxiety, panic attacks, depression, high blood pressure/hypertension, weight loss, hyper- & hypo-thyroidism, Irritable Bowel Syndrome, plantar fasciitis, more.

A journalist and former communications director and university instructor, Luann is committed to personal, one-on-one communication with her students.

Lauren Anderson

Certifications: 200-Hour KYT

Professional Affiliations: Member, Kripalu Yoga Teachers Association

Provides: Yoga Instruction

Lauren was first drawn to yoga after discovering its healing ability for anxiety and depression, which she has experienced after undergoing a major life trauma.  Lauren believes that, through movement and breathing, you can connect with your true feeling self, something more intuitive and loving than the thinking self.  Continuously coming back to her mat to connect with her true self, Lauren has experienced more acceptance, peace and joy in her life.

Lauren is known for having “great music,” adding excitement to her classes; leading breathing exercises (pranayama) that help create shifts in energy; and helping students build postures from the ground up.  For her Yoga Workout class at Dream, she likes to do for students what she has done for herself - get moving in order to really connect with the body and true self. As someone who played sports her whole life and continues to be an avid runner, Lauren brings athletic exercises into her yoga, allowing the whole body a workout.

She aims to show students how vigorous yoga - especially paired with adequate cool-down and relaxation - can bring a new awareness to the creativity, joy and love that is sometimes stuck within you - and you only need to get moving to release some of it!  Lauren’s hope in teaching is to cultivate a space for her students to tap into the natural energy and light inside of them, while showing them that non-judgmental awareness and breath can move you through any physical, mental and emotional pain.  For her, true and surrendered relaxation occurs after more rigorous movement, so her classes integrate both concepts.

Professional Affiliations: National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC); Yoga Alliance, and the Kripalu Yoga Teachers Association (KYTA)

Provides:  Yoga instruction at DreamYoga Studio; and, as a DYS affiliate, brings Dream Yoga classes offsite to schools, businesses and organizations throughout the DC area, specializing in yoga for teachers, parents and preschool-aged children.  Some classes offered include Yoga for the Overworked Professional (gentle stretch & strengthening), Kids Yoga Parties (theme-based, yoga experiences for children), and Family Yoga Dance (an interactive combination of traditional yoga postures with modern dance designed to improve health and strengthen the connection between adult and child). Lisa is also affiliated with Olney Yoga in Olney, MD.

Lisa began her yoga journey in 2001 as a student of DreamYoga Founder and Director Luann Fulbright.  Recognizing immediately the physical benefits of yoga and gradually uncovering its profound spiritual dimensions, Lisa was moved by her practice of KripaluYoga.  Her busy life as a mother of two boys, active community volunteer, and full-time professional in the fields of human resources and early childhood education often relegated Lisa's yoga practice to the sidelines.  However, the mat kept calling her back. In 2011, driven by the desire to bring yoga into the lives of the students and faculty at the Friendship Children's Center where she is the Executive Director, Lisa completed her 200-hour training in Pranakriya Yoga, a classic form of yoga taught in the tradition of Swami Kripalu.

Lisa believes that yoga is a practice that brings strength, joy and richness to life.  Yoga is a building block for creating a community of active, aware and compassionate citizens. She is the founder and director of Dynamic Life Yoga, LLC, in Rockville, MD. Lisa’s long-time interest in serving children and families is supported by a BA in Psychology, with an emphasis on Child Psychology.

Caroline Hesse

Certifications:   500-Hour Bikram Yoga Teacher, 200-Hour Pranakriya Yoga

 Provides:  Yoga Instruction

After many years of traditional exercise and athletics, and several years of daily intensive karate practice, Caroline’s back had reached its limit.  Her mother introduced her to Bikram yoga; and in the Fall of 2001 she moved to Los Angeles for the intensive, two-month long, 500-hour Bikram Yoga Teacher Training.  With a renewed spine, she set out to teach Bikram for several years.

In 2002, Caroline was introduced to Yogiraj Amrit Desai, prominent student of Swami Kripalu and founder of Kripalu Yoga Center.  The unique meditative and intention-based approach of the Kripalu style of hatha yoga was a true awakening for body, mind and spirit!  Caroline further studied with Yogi Desai in 2003 participating in a Yoga Nidra (literally “yogic sleep”) meditation intensive.  She was serendipitously introduced to Luann Fulbright’s Kriplau classes at Dream Yoga Studio in 2004, and continued her yoga practice at DYS through pregnancy and after the birth of her daughter in July 2006.  She is also an avid self-study student of nutrition, wellness and healing arts.

After three years of staying home with her daughter and too little yoga, Caroline has recently returned to her study of yoga -- this time, the Kripalu-based Pranakriya Yoga Teacher Training Program at Dream.   She also has begun training for certification as a Nutritional Therapist, and is excited about sharing her experience with her Dream family.

Larkin Goff

Certifications: 200-Hour KYT & RYT, Divine Life Yoga Nidra Instructor

Professional Affiliations: Member of Kripalu Yoga Teachers Association

Provides: Group & Private Instruction in Yoga and Yoga Nidra Guided Relaxation

Larkin began practicing yoga when she was in high school. Inspired by her mother's yoga practice, and looking for something to balance her avid soccer playing, she found what she was looking for in Kripalu Yoga, as well as Power Vinyasa Yoga. As many do, she began to practice for the physical benefit, as well as the camaraderie of family and friends. Yoga didn’t always ‘feel good,’ but she always felt better after a class, without really knowing why. This experiential evidence was enough for her to return again and again. Yoga continued to weave in and out of Larkin’s life, staying mostly in the realm of a physical practice, until a relationship break-up prompted a life-changing swadhyaya (self-study) course with DC-based life coach Carolyn Butcher. This inspired a commitment to a regular practice of yoga, journaling and meditation, and began an investigation into yoga as a way of living. These valuable practices continue to transform Larkin’s life. In 2011, she felt it was time to share her passion and practice with others, and took the 200-Hour Yoga Teacher Certification Training at Kripalu Center for Yoga & Health. She returned in May of 2012 to take the Divine Sleep Yoga Nidra Teacher Training.

Larkin’s teaching style is informed by Kripalu’s philosophy of compassionate self-inquiry. Her classes are an accessible blend of mind, body and breath convergence. She acts as a guide to create a collaborative experience between teacher and student, leading the class through centering, creative asana sequences, movement inquiry and relaxation. During her Yoga Nidra classes, Larkin leads the conscious mind on a journey through the koshas, or layers of being, providing the opportunity for healing and transformation on the physical, energetic, mental, emotional and spiritual layers. Larkin, also a photographer, incorporates imagery from her love of the natural world and her interest in the mind-body-spirit connection to craft an experience which is unique and meaningful.

In addition to Yoga Nidra, Larkin leads a Yoga Workout class at Dream, during which she draws inspiration from her experience in power yoga, blending this strong physical practice with the mindfulness of Kripalu's holistic approach to yoga.

Bernadette O'Donnell

Certifications: Reiki Master, Certified Massage Therapist, Interplay Leader, Healing Light I and II,  Healing Health Coach, Certified Laughter Leader; BA, Psychology

Professional Affiliations: Member of Associated Bodywork & Massage Professionals

Provides: Reiki, Aroma Touch Therapeutic Massage, Swedish Massage, Education on Doterra Essential Oils (including use of Zyto Compas Energy Body Scanning Technology), Healing Health Coach, InterPlay and Movement Instruction

Bernadette has been a massage therapist since 2005, after graduating from Tai Chi Massage School in Herndon, Va. She is passionate about using Certified-Pure Therapeutic-Grade essential oils—what she calls “nature's medicine” – as a key part of her practice.  Her Swedish massage with the oils is “not your normal” essential oil massage. The combination of the oils she uses, based on an intuitive and technology-supported scan and assessment of your body’s energy needs, enables her to use the oils to support your body’s own intelligence to heal--minimizing symptoms and addressing root causes of  ailments. Her experience with and use of Reiki, Play and Movement, Health Coaching and laughter...combined with her gentle nature…makes a session with Bernadette particularly healing and, to many, life-changing.

A significant life event led Bernadette to her more naturalistic approach to healing. About 13 years ago, she went "Code Blue" in a hospital emergency room due to a reaction to antibiotics. The trauma induced a Grand Mal Seizure that left her in a coma for three days, as well as breaking two lumbar vertebrae in her back. While in the coma, she didn’t feel her body, just unconditional love and peace! For six months after awakening from the coma, she felt extreme pain from the broken ribs causing sleepless nights, difficulty breathing and unclear thinking. She discovered a strong mind-body connection between her thoughts, pain and healing her body. The body, she has confirmed, is an amazing tool that changes chemistry as thinking changes; with intricate emotional, mental, physical and spiritual connections. The more she noticed grievances, irritation and discomfort, she found herself saying, "Oh, here is an opportunity to heal." Bernadette has helped people address back and other pain, insomnia, anxiety, ADHD, IBS, hormonal imbalance, asthma, sprains and breaks, nausea, cancer recovery, more. She is delighted to be able to help facilitate healing for you at Dream.

A certified Kids Yoga instructor with a professional background in inclusion, Bethiny enjoys teaching yoga to children of all ages and abilities.  In her position of Inclusion Specialist for the Girl Scout Council of the Nation's Capital, she often taught inclusive yoga to girls of all abilities and also developed inclusive trainings for Girl Scout teens and adults that incorporate accessible yoga.  She is especially inspired by nature, music, and the prana/life force energy we all possess.

Laurie had enjoyed a yoga class here and there, but turned to it regularly in January 2006 after deciding to turn around the New Year’s resolution process from thinking about what she should do in the New Year to what she wanted to do.  Taking yoga was one of the answers.  Already physically active, Laurie was mainly looking for a dedicated hour of peace and introspection – sort of a meditation in motion - in an otherwise typically busy Metro-DC life.  It was actually the last 10 minutes of each class spent relaxing in Shavasana (relaxation) pose that initially hooked her.  Ultimately, she saw that more peace can come from a compassionate observation of and change in patterns that no longer served her or the people she cares about.  Yoga offered a pause from the busy-ness of everyday life to think about what to leave behind and what to embrace.  Yoga also offered better strength, flexibility and balance.

Laurie completed the Pranakriya Yoga 200-hour training in 2011, and continues to take workshops and trainings, including prenatal yoga and Warriors at Ease trainings.  She looks forward to teaching these special populations, as well as classes at Dream Yoga, where Laurie has taught Gentle, Stretch and Strengthen, and Yoga Workout classes.  She has also taught yoga at a retreat for peoplewith HIV/AIDS.  She seeks to create a safe space for her students where they can pause, observe their experience and explore their edge.
